Support Manager - Leicestershire
Our well established client provide high integrity systems and equipment for the latest Defence Programmes, from automated systems for state of the art Aircraft Carriers, to missile defence systems for Fighters and safety systems for Nuclear Submarines.
Due to their continued success, they now have a requirement for Support Manager with responsibility for developing their customer and platform support business worldwide, continuously improving the service levels to generate new business. This is a senior position within the business reporting to the Director of Surface Ships and Specialist Systems. This role will involve managing a team of approximately 20 Engineers and ensuring clients receive adequate life through equipment support in terms of managing spares and upgrades. Currently the company have pockets of support and the aim is to consolidate the service provided with this role being at the head of it all.
Typical core duties will involve but will not be limited to:
- Delivering a professional, timely support service to a wide range of customers, including Navies, Dockyards, Shipbuilders, Systems Integrators, Oil Rigs and Naval Bases world-wide.
- Working with clients to deliver in-service savings through technology and process innovations.
- Driving increasing profits through the development of the Support Team and Processes.
- Working closely with customers to develop optimum support solutions prior to equipment operating in-service.
- Developing and maintaining an excellent support processes.
- Working with the Sales team to identify and secure new opportunities.
- Working with the Supply Chain and Engineering teams to develop the quality and cost effectiveness of our standard service portfolio.
- Working with other areas of the Group to secure larger support contracts.
The candidate will ideally have:
- Demonstrable relevant experience working in an engineering support \ PDS capacity.
- Demonstrable experience of project and operations management.
- Experience of in-service support in the defence industry preferred.
- Experience in operations management and process improvement.
- Experienced in dealing with a range of support and delivery models.
- A track record in delivering successful support contracts.
The candidate will ideally:
- Be educated to degree (or equivalent) level in Engineering and / or Business or Legal.
- Be comfortable and \ or experienced in working away from the office for short periods of time.
- Be comfortable with air travel.
- Be comfortable with networking at all levels and in all professional situations.
- Be an excellent communicator and presenter of themselves, the company and its products.
The successful candidate will possess direct experience of running a customers support team for custom systems e.g. equipment on ships and submarines - with prior knowledge of hotlines and managing a field engineering pool of fully trained engineers.
In return the company offer a salary circa £45-50K depending on experience plus benefits.
