Notes for discussion
There are clear links between employer engagement, the enhancement of teaching and learning, and students’ employability. Engagement with employers, as part of co-design and co-delivery of the curriculum, is considered central to enhancing and supporting student employability and workforce development, through the creation of individuals with the appropriate skills, knowledge and expertise required by employers. Input from industry and employers is central to ensuring not only that providers are delivering programmes to meet needs and demand but also that curriculum remains relevant, valid and current.

Both learning and work are changing rapidly, and this has implications for individuals’ career paths as well as employers’ staff development and training. Individuals today face a future where they will experience several moves from one job to another and need to continue to update their knowledge and skills through their working lives.

Businesses have an important role to play in partnering with education providers to raise ambition and achievement and improve performance. Business links with education providers are wide spread and growing, but with the right steps they could be grown further.
